TECNAM SHAPES THE FUTURE OF IFR AVIATION TRAINING WITH THE P-MENTOR. https://tecnam.com/tecnam-shapes-the-future-of-ifr-aviation-training-with-the-p-mentor/ Wed, 13 Apr 2022 16:07:51 +0000 https://tecnam.com/?p=18660 TECNAM P-MENTOR IS AN IFR EASA CS-23 CERTIFIED AIRCRAFT FEATURING THE LOWEST FUEL CONSUMPTION AND EMISSIONS. THE NEWLY LAUNCHED MODEL WILL BE FEATURED AT AERO22. The new P2002.

CAPUA, April 13 – TECNAM has announced the introduction of a new, revolutionary aircraft into the General Aviation arena – a model named
P-Mentor. With the Type Certificate issued on April 7, 2022, the P-Mentor sees its official birth date. The aircraft will be showcased for a worldwide premiere at AERO Friedrichshafen at Tecnam Stand No. A4-319.

“Mentor: an experienced and trusted person you rely on to give you advice and guidance, especially in your career”

With these words in mind Tecnam started the P-Mentor program: a simple and sustainable solution to guide student pilots from their first flight up to Instrument Rating, all in one two-seater single piston aircraft: IFR; PBN, RNAV; Variable Pitch, Autopilot, Simulated Retractable Gear Control; BRS.

The P-Mentor is the ultimate synthesis of Tecnam’s leadership, knowledge and experience in solutions for Flight Training Organizations and private customers.

The P-Mentor allows complete PPL, IR and UPRT training, with approved PBN/RNAV as well as AFCS: the entire training syllabus with unprecedented fuel consumption and emissions, further enhancing the renowned profitability of Tecnam-made fleet.

For the first time ever, the extremely fuel efficient and low-emissions Rotax 912iSc becomes the hearth of a full IFR-approved aircraft, coupled with an MT constant speed propeller.

The all-new wing specially designed for the P-Mentor features a tapered planform with laminar flow airfoil and mixed structure; light alloy for spars and wing box, CFRP for the one-piece leading edge. Its design allowed the P-Mentor to pass the latest CS-23 Amendment requirements for low speed and stall characteristics without ballistic recovery system being essential part of the aircraft configuration. BRS is approved and available as an option for customers who require additional safety add-ons. Integral fuel tank is located behind the main spar and it offers a remarkable 130lt volume and more than 9 hours endurance.

Flight and Training experience offers the state-of-art Garmin® G3X glass cockpit, with Garmin® GI275 as back-up instrument and multiple configurations to allow PBN/RNAV as well as GFCTM 500 autopilot training. Simulated retractable gear control for enhanced students’ proficiency since their first flight is available as an option.

Besides its revolutionary avionics, the P-Mentor sports Tecnam’s signature Italian style with the clean and sleek lines, interiors shaped around a large cabin, modern seats and superior visibility.

Tecnam’s commitment towards sustainable aviation is a reality today: flight training choosing Tecnam as their single and twin-engine aircraft fleet supplier can save up to 10 tons of CO2 for every graduated Commercial Pilot. The less-emission training fleet currently available is Made-In-Tecnam.

P-Mentor is the IFR approved aircraft with the lowest fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, with up to 60% of emissions reduction when compared with IFR competitors.

A number of selected Training Organisations already pre-ordered the
P-Mentor, confirming the great benefits of this new design.

More info on the P-Mentor:

https://tecnam.com/aircraft/pmentor

“We are delighted to present the P-Mentor today. I am sure this new design will revitalize the Trainer market, helping many flight schools to remain competitive and profitable and making new student pilots happier and more proficient. Real sustainability, fuel economy and profitability start here,” says Tecnam’s Managing Director, Giovanni Pascale.

“When I see a new Type Certificate with this model’s name, I think of my father and my uncle, prof. Luigi Pascale – the men who started this adventure. It also reminds me of all our collaborators and customers that brought us here today – our Mentors Tecnam’s CEO, Paolo Pascale.

New Tecnam P2012 SENTINEL SMP Roll-Out https://tecnam.com/new-tecnam-p2012-sentinel-smp-roll-out/ Tue, 15 Sep 2020 18:45:26 +0000 https://tecnam.com/?p=4673 P2012 Sentinel SMP

Capua, Italy – TECNAM announced today the first roll-out of the P2012 Sentinel SMP (Special Mission Platform) with multi-mission capabilities.

TECNAM is passionate about creating the ultimate aircraft for its many customers worldwide and is constantly challenging the status quo regarding technology and design.

Sleek, modern and seductive, the P2012 Traveller has been the reference platform to develop the P2012 Sentinel SMP, the perfect combination of cutting-edge technology and efficiency with its unique Italian-style design. Its elegant colour scheme of air-superiority grey, with black vertical fin and a dedicated logo, immediately recalls the aircraft’s vocation: being the earth’s Sentinel from the sky.

The P2012 Sentinel SMP is the ultimate TECNAM Special Mission Platform aircraft, without compromises on any front. With it, TECNAM elevated the already world-renown TECNAM P2006T to the next level, thanks to a more capable and advanced surveillance platform for short- and medium-range operations. The continuous investment in R&D, and the passion and attention to detail of the TECNAM engineers, have made it possible to reach such a high level of tech without having to settle on a cost-effective solution. The result is a truly unique combo in the Special Mission Platform market.

The P2012 Sentinel SMP, compared to the P2006T Twin SMP, integrates higher payloads, additional operator and observer stations and new capabilities, including approval for FIKI (Flight Into Known Icing), while simultaneously preserving the recognized TECNAM efficiency in mission accomplishment.

Whether it is used by a government or a private organization, the operator will benefit from increased range, endurance, cabin volume and crew space.

Always striving for perfection, TECNAM initiated a dedicated program with L3 HARRISTM WESCAM MXTM – Series electro-optical and infrared sensors optimized integration. This will greatly improve the law-enforcement mission efficiency when performed with the P2012 Sentinel, taking advantage of its twin-engine safety and its capability of accommodating (in addition to one WESCAM MX-10, MX-15 or MX-20 turret) other mission sensors such as a SAR Radar, providing the P2012 SMP with the mission capabilities normally pertaining to CS/FAR 25 platforms at a fraction of their acquisition and operating costs.

The high cabin volume and payload will allow for excellent mission performance and plenty of space for sensors installation and operators console. A TECNAM Sentinel equipped with full mission equipment, at its maximum takeoff weight of 3680 kg, will provide up to 9 hours’ endurance for up to six 90kg-crew members, sensor operators and observers.

The P2012 twin-engine design guarantees an exhaust-free field of view to the sensors, granting increased accuracy and “noise-free” operations. Moreover, the hatches’ position under the fuselage ensures a carbon-monoxide-free cabin that will enhance the safety of the crew members (one or two pilots and up to 5 mission operators).

Following the P2012 SMP roll-out, TECNAM foresees an increasing demand in the Special Mission Platform market. The Sentinel’s increased capabilities and superior efficiency in its role, coupled with its competitive entry price and operating costs, will allow the operator to perform the mission with results that were previously relegated only to higher-class platforms, and at costs that are just a fraction of those.

The Sentinel, as can be said of all the P2012 range of aircraft, benefits from the TECNAM “DREAM” concept: an aircraft built and designed for Durability, Reliability, Employability, Affordability & Manageability.

TECNAM has even anticipated the growing desire for versatility: the P2012 Sentinel SMP can be equipped, upon customer’s request, with a quick-conversion kit that transforms it from Special Mission Platform to Airline version, providing up to 11 seats and the consolidated P2012 Traveller transport capabilities.

Giovanni Pascale Langer, TECNAM Managing Director, said: “TECNAM is very proud to expand the Special Mission Platform offer with a high-performance but still cost-efficient solution to the market. Here at TECNAM, we all recognize the importance of providing a high-capability platform that will allow our customers to perform aerial surveys and mapping as well as protect borders, save lives, and detect criminal operations. Our effort has been focused on the development of a system with higher-class capabilities at a fraction of their acquisition price, making such vital services accessible to those countries and operators that simply couldn’t afford them before.”

Capua, Italy — Tecnam announced today that the Austrian-German engineering and surveying company AirborneHydroMapping GmbH (AHM GmbH) is extending its fleet and survey possibilities with the new Special Mission Platform aircraft for aerial mapping, based on the 11-seat P2012 Traveller.

With the great success of the P2006T in Special Mission Platform (about 100 platforms sold and flying worldwide), Tecnam designed the P2012 structure with Special Mission in mind from the very beginning. As an example, all the control lines have been moved sidewards, in order to keep the central fuselage section free and allow room for two 735x567mm (28.9×22.3in) hatches, capable of accommodating the majority of sensors, cameras, lidar and mission equipment available worldwide. Twin-engine configuration guarantees the hatches and cabin to be always free from exhaust, so the risk of carbon monoxide will never be an issue with the P2012 SMP.

As with the P2006T SMP, the P2012 is available in several configurations and options, allowing the customer (or the mission system integration service company) to best tune the investment.  The standard configuration features, in fact, two hatches with on-ground removable covers, multiple sockets for 28VDC mission power (up to 3.360W available) and a seat retrofit kit to allow restoration of the passenger configuration. There is a wide range of options available to customize the SMP, such as 115/230VAC plugs, 14VDC connectors, mission screen for pilot, operator console, electrically operated sliding doors for hatches, antennae pre-installation and approval. Tecnam also offers a wide range of services, from dedicated fitting plates to turnkey solutions, ensuring that the customer will always be confident about its aerial platform choice: the P2012 SMP.

The Tecnam P2012 features a sleek, modern design with state-of-the-art equipment, fixed landing gear, robust interiors and easy-to-replace parts. Like all Tecnam aircraft, the Traveller offers high efficiency and low maintenance costs with its simple and easily accessed airframe and systems. The aircraft is powered by two Lycoming 6-cylinder TEO-540-C1A turbo engines. It is the first piston-powered aircraft with electronic management of engine power, which, coupled with the Garmin autopilot, enables a reduced workload for pilots and a great extension of the engine life.

Walter De Costa, Tecnam Global Sales & Marketing Director, said: “Tecnam is very proud to be associated with such an environmentally-friendly company. We feel honoured that our aircraft are contributing to this highly essential and important work.”

Frank Steinbacher, AHM Airborne Mapping Director: “We are excited to have the P2012 Traveller soon in our fleet. This will increase our range of operations and raise the level of quality of service to offer to our customers. Since our first P2006T, Tecnam have always had the right answer to our needs.”

Important Innovation for the European Light Aircraft Category

Capua, Italy: Tecnam announced today the certification of the low-wing P2002 Sierra MkII light aircraft to the new German 600kg rules. The latest version of the EASA Basic Regulation now allows for 600kg MTOW Ultralight (UL) aircraft under the control of the CAA’s of the member states.

Germany is the first country to declare the opt-out, implementing the new regulation German 600kg technical LTFUL 2018 rules. It is also the first country to develop and publish the necessary airworthiness requirements for these aircraft, delegating the certification process to the DULV (Deutscher Ultraleichtflugverband e.V.) agency. The new certification of the Sierra MkII is of great importance, since the German Type approval is recognised in many European countries. The increased weight allowance means greater safety, as the aircraft can be equipped with a parachute, more avionics and more fuel.

All else remains unchanged. The Tecnam P2002 Sierra MkII retains all the features and flying qualities that have established the aircraft’s position in the marketplace: an improved cabin for greater comfort, the latest avionics, new paint colours, several interior options and a redesigned cowling for the 100HP Rotax engine.

  • Larger cabin, with new premium interior design
  • Redesigned canopy with more headroom, and new locking mechanism that reduces noise levels
  • Seats with extra fore and aft adjustment
  • Sleeker engine cowling
  • Very latest in avionics
  • Several options for paint colours and interior fabrics.

The MkII offers state-of-the-art technology in a jet-style cockpit. Customers can choose from an extensive range of options, starting with the basic analogue instruments needed for visual flight, a six-pack analogue with Garmin GPS, the Garmin G3X which features twin 10.6-inch screens, and the Garmin G3X touch suite.

The largest range of options is for Interior and exterior styling, with four choices for every style package: Standard, Premium and Power. For the exterior, the range of paint schemes includes new metallic colours which can be matched to the seats, cabin sides and instrument panel covering. The customer is free to choose whatever suits their imagination and taste.

In non-European countries, the P2002 SIERRA MkII is available in the Ultralight, US Light Sport Aircraft and Experimental categories, whereas the certified version, the P2002JF, is available as the European CS-VLA and soon the CS23.
