Tecnam to postpone the P-VOLT Programme https://tecnam.com/tecnam-to-postpone-the-p-volt-programme/ Tue, 13 Jun 2023 15:30:16 +0000 https://tecnam.com/?p=22691 After three years of intensive studies covering the entire lifecycle of an all-electric aircraft, Tecnam has concluded that the time for P-Volt is not yet ripe, although research activities will continue to explore new emerging technologies.

Since the beginning of the P-Volt development, Tecnam’s focus has been to provide operators with the ability to fly an all-electric passenger aircraft profitably, efficiently and sustainably in terms of operating costs, emissions, performance, turnaround and time to market. At present, Tecnam believes that these can only be achieved by extremely aggressive speculation on uncertain technology developments.

Tecnam has a deep understanding of electric flight, gained from previous projects such as the H3ps hybrid aircraft based on the P2010 four-seater, and today we have looked closely at the state of the art in energy storage and realistic 5 year developments, excluding technological revolutions that no one can speculate on. One of the conclusions was that an aircraft with a battery pack at the end of its life would not be the best product for the market, but certainly the worst in terms of Net Present Value (NPV).

The proliferation of aircraft with “new” batteries would lead to unrealistic mission profiles that would quickly degrade after a few weeks of operation, making the all-electric passenger aircraft a mere “Green Transition flagship” rather than a real player in the decarbonisation of aviation. Taking into account the most optimistic projections of slow charge cycles and the possible limitation of the maximum charge level per cycle, the real storage capacity would fall below 170Wh/kg, and only a few hundred flights would drive operators to replace the entire storage unit, with a dramatic increase in direct operating costs due to the reserves for battery replacement prices.

With dozens of EASA and FAA certifications, Tecnam is the most active General Aviation manufacturer in the world with the highest number of new type certifications in recent years. The company’s mission has always been to design and manufacture products with the highest value for money in terms of efficiency, CO2 emissions, operating costs and profitability. Today, Tecnam believes that these key factors cannot define a new aircraft development as “viable” with a target entry into service by 2026-2028.

Tecnam is constantly and closely monitoring the evolution of technologies capable of achieving net-zero emissions targets, working with the leading manufacturers of propulsion systems and providing them with direction and guidance, ready to bring the P-Volt back into the type certification arena as soon as technology evolution allows.

Fabio Russo, Tecnam’s Chief R&D Officer said: “We don’t feel attracted by the 2026 stream or any Electric Rush. It has always been our culture to commit to achievable goals with customers and operators, and we intend to keep that promise. We hope that new technologies will make businesses viable sooner rather than later, and we have real confidence in our partners’ ability to bring highly valuable products to the zero-emission powertrain and energy storage arena.

TECNAM UNVEILS NEW LOGO https://tecnam.com/tecnam-unveils-new-logo/ Wed, 11 Jan 2023 11:14:58 +0000 https://tecnam.com/?p=21758 The aircraft manufacturer owned by the Pascale family in the aviation business since 1948

CAPUA – Tecnam is excited to unveil its new company logo, a fresh and modern update that reflects the company’s evolution and growth.

The company, founded in 1948 by two brothers, Luigi and Giovanni Pascale, spanning across several aviation eras, initially with Partenavia then, in the 80’s, with Tecnam. When the Pascale brothers founded Tecnam, the General Aviation market was going through one of its most difficult times. Tecnam’s mission at the time was to produce parts for other manufacturers such as Boeing, ATR, Agusta-Westland. In the 90’s, Tecnam took a leading position in the industry by guiding the Light Sport Aviation revolution and today stands on the podium among the top General Aviation manufacturers in the world. Annually Tecnam delivers hundreds of planes to the most recognized flight training organizations, commercial operators and private owners in every single corner of the eastern and western hemispheres.

The Tecnam logo that characterized many years of aviation did a great job during the years, making these Italian aircraft recognized worldwide. To celebrate the important milestone of 75 years in aviation, the Pascale family decided to evolve the current logo to combine both the heritage with the challenges of the future, inspiring a new vision of freedom, passion for flying and care for the planet.

New Logo.
As a prominent representation of the company, people and brand, the new logo is dynamic, modern and energetic.

The new logo features a sleek, streamlined design that conveys a sense of forward motion and progress.

Inspired by the universal double wings, that represent the duality of Pascale brothers, the two pillars of Tecnam: the pilot and the manufacturer, both tied together for the passion for aviation, but also the limitless horizons and freedoms that come with pursuing people’s passions as pilots, technicians, or aviators.

Being a global company, with subsidiaries in the US and Australia, represented in more than 60 countries, Tecnam proudly maintains its Italian origins and “made in Italy” creativity.

New Brand Colors.
The main color scheme, a vibrant shade of blue, represents the company’s focus on innovation and forward thinking.

The Italian flag incorporated in the brand mark is not only a reference to Italian heritage, but also encompasses a precise statement. The red symbolises passion which is the propeller that moves ahead all our ventures, while the green the commitment for a cleaner, sustainable planet.

“We are thrilled to unveil our new logo, which represents the exciting direction in which our company is heading,” said Giovanni Pascale, Tecnam’s Managing Director. “This fresh design reflects our desire to push boundaries and reach new heights, as we continue to soar higher in the world of aviation. We can’t wait for the world to see it flying around the world!”

The new logo will begin by appearing on Tecnam’s website and all marketing materials immediately. Tecnam encourages its customers and stakeholders to keep an eye out for the new look.

Tecnam P-Mentor Becomes the Launchpad for Ryanair’s Future Pilots  https://tecnam.com/tecnam-p-mentor-becomes-the-launchpad-for-ryanairs-future-pilots/ Thu, 28 Apr 2022 14:30:12 +0000 https://tecnam.com/?p=19007 Ryanair’s approved flight training partner Bartolini Air has chosen Tecnam’s recently launched P-Mentor for their modern fleet. Thanks to Tecnam P-Mentor’s next-generation avionics and profitability, the Ryanair Mentored Programme at Bartolini Air will remain the most price-competitive “zero to airline-ready” training option in Europe.

Friedrichshafen, Germany – Bartolini Air, a group of EASA-certified aviation companies and Ryanair’s approved flight training partner, has acquired Tecnam P-Mentor aircraft for the “Ryanair Mentored Programme”. The acquisition followed the P-Mentor’s recent launch announcement introducing the model to Tecnam’s portfolio of premium aircraft.

Renowned for one of the world’s highest training standards, Ryanair relies on Bartolini Air’s fleet of “modern, brand-new aircraft” to guide their future pilots from zero to ATPL. The P-Mentor will support the Group’s integrated ab-initio courses and is bound to be a gamechanger, especially for Instrument Rating training, thanks to a modern Automatic Flight Control System, PBN/RNAV approval and full glass cockpit environment, combined with the fuel consumption of 14 liters per hour.
Latest EASA CS-23 Certification Requirements, operating cost and very low CO2 emissions make the
P-Mentor unparalleled by any other competitor.

More info on the P-Mentor:
https://tecnam.com/aircraft/pmentor

According to Bartolini Air’s President Bartlomiej Walas, adding the P-Mentor to the Group’s fleet “will improve the quality of training while limiting its cost for students and better preserving the natural environment.”

“The similarity between the name of the aircraft and our flagship pilot course – the Ryanair Mentored Programme – is a pure coincidence, but a very fortunate one, because it is the P-Mentor that will allow future Ryanair pilots to benefit from top quality training at the lowest possible price,” said Walas.

Bartolini Air’s flight school has relied on Tecnam’s innovative aircraft for pilot training since 2010. The Group currently operates 14 Tecnam aircraft.

“This is not the first time that we have trusted Tecnam to implement innovative solutions in our pilot training,” said Walas. “I have no doubt that the arrival of the P-Mentor in our fleet will only confirm our ability to offer the highest quality training throughout the course in just one single aircraft!”

Ryanair’s Director of Sustainability, Thomas Fowler, said: “As Europe’s greenest major airline, Ryanair understands that aviation plays a pivotal role in tackling climate change and through our Pathway to Net Zero decarbonisation strategy, we continue to reduce our CO2 emissions and the impact of our operations on the environment.

We are delighted to see that our approved partner flight school, Bartolini Air, who trains our future Pilots on the Ryanair Mentored Programme, are investing in the newest generation aircraft P-Mentor from Tecnam which will have a hugely positive impact on the environment thanks to a 60% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to current IFR training planes and a fuel consumption of 14 l h, which means a 50% reduction compared to standard training planes.”

Tecnam Aircraft’s Managing Director Giovanni Pascale Langer said:

“The P-Mentor has already generated great interest among forward-thinking flight training organizations like Bartolini Air who trust Tecnam design, fine flying qualities combined with state-of-art avionics and perhaps most of all, its impressive fuel consumption and CO2 emission cuts. We see this as important steps not only for flight training centres, but in the future aviation industry across all its segments.”

Recent study shows that flight schools operating with TECNAM single and twin-engine fleet can reduce emissions by up to 60%: 10 tons of CO2 for each student by the time they receive their Commercial Pilot License.

TECNAM AIRCRAFT FLEET REDUCES FLIGHT SCHOOLS’ CO2 EMISSIONS BY UP TO 60% https://tecnam.com/tecnam-aircraft-fleet-reduces-flight-schools-co2-emissions-by-up-to-60/ Fri, 22 Apr 2022 10:11:55 +0000 https://tecnam.com/?p=18903
ON EARTH DAY TECNAM REVEALS HOW TO SOAR GREENER
Recent study shows that flight schools operating with TECNAM single and twin-engine fleet can reduce emissions by up to 60%: 10 tons of CO2 for each student by the time they receive their Commercial Pilot License.

CAPUA, April 22 – Based on recent data and industry benchmarks, Italian aircraft manufacturer TECNAM has revealed that flight schools operating TECNAM’s single- and twin-engine fleets can save as much as 10 tones of CO2 emissions for every single student graduated with Commercial Pilot License – a 60% reduction compared to fleets using 100LL fuel on a journey of 155 flight hours, 30h of which on twin.

According to the company’s Director of R&D Fabio Russo, operating a TECNAM fleet allows flight training organizations to “significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions today, not tomorrow.”
“While there are a few exciting green projects in development at TECNAM, the beauty of operating our fleet is that you don’t need to wait to make the difference,” said Russo.

In addition to the research on their fleet’s environmental impact, the company is actively investing in contributing to the green future of aviation through sustainable R&D projects and strategic partnerships.

Among research projects that are inspiring future aircraft propulsion and configurations, TECNAM highlighted those developed with Rolls-Royce, Rotax and NASA. The projects include the parallel hybrid P2010 H3PS, the full-electric P-VOLT, and NASA X-57 built around the Tecnam P2006T – the model that independent research firms named the most efficient twin aircraft in the world.

As outlined in their “Green Manifest”, TECNAM’s approach to sustainable innovation is based on three core principles; their solutions need to be “realistic, durable, and practical.”

TECNAM’s Managing Director Giovanni Pascale Langer emphasized that the brand is committed to developing not only cleaner, but also scalable and economically viable solutions.
“Sustainability is a journey, not a destination,” concluded Pascale Langer. “This means that we are continuously conceptualizing and developing greener solutions – ones that offer superior performance and lower carbon emissions and thus, by consequence, the most interesting profitability”.
